Lawton Woods has been described by home owners and visitors as a “charming, unique, and cozy” neighborhood. Homes are either on the main streets, Lawton Road or Lawton Drive. In addition, various picturesque circular streets off the main road or drive grant homeowners’ homes a peaceful scene of beauty and privacy. Architecture, design, and landscaping make each home unique. Well-tended yards and lovely commons areas boast gardenias, jasmine, and Canna lilies. Neighborhood cook-outs and holiday get-togethers join residents of all ages and different occupations, or retirees who bask in their “glory days.” Afternoon strolls around the beautiful lake offer exercise and relaxation. As a special treat, residents sometimes grow their own vegetables in the Heritage Farms garden plots. Whether Lawton Woods folks fraternize or value their privacy, this area grants a sense of belonging for everyone.
Sea Pines owners enjoy residency in a full-service plantation with a broad array of amenities. Three shopping districts exist within the Sea Pines gates at Sea Pines Center, the shops at Harbour Town, and also at South Beach Marina Village. Additionally, Park Plaza shopping center and the commercial district at Sea Pines Circle are just outside Sea Pines main gate. Going back into the plantation, the first amenity that one comes upon is the Sea Pines Forest Preserve - Greenwood entrance - which is a 605+ acre nature preserve filled with trails, lakes, historic sites, and more undisturbed nature than is available elsewhere on the island, and particularly behind gates. Further in on Greenwood Drive, the visitor will come upon the Six Oaks Cemetery, Lawton Stables and animal petting farm, and Heritage Farms, where garden plots of varying sizes are available to residents on a first-come/first-serve basis for those that are inclined to do their own planting. Sea Pines has two beach clubs, both on Sea Pines Drive: Tower Beach Club on South Beach is for owners only and the Sea Pines Beach Club, across from the Plantation Club, is for owners and guests (renters). Those desiring a historical perspective of Sea Pines would not want to miss the Stoney Baynard Ruins on Plantation Drive in the Heritage Woods subarea.
